Pattern Jury Instructions for Federal Criminal Cases is a project initiated by the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, and the South Carolina Bar in 2005. Hardcopy and online versions were published in 2011. The 2024 online edition includes all updates through February 1, 2024.

While every effort has been made to assure conformity with Fourth Circuit law, the publication of these pattern instructions does not mean that each instruction has been approved by the judges of the district. Rather, this is a resource intended to aid in compiling proposed instructions for consideration by the presiding judge who will ultimately determine whether each instruction is appropriate under the facts of a particular case and how the final charge should be worded.

I understand these Pattern Jury Instructions are not intended to replace independent research and that neither the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, nor the South Carolina Bar represents that the information contained in the Pattern Jury Instructions is accurate, complete, or current.
